Joan Lemaster Stephens, 88, of South Shore, Kentucky went to be with the Lord, Friday, May 23, 2025, at her residence. Joan was born June 17, 1936, in Ashland, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Dock W. and Mae Haywood Lemaster. She was a 1954 graduate of Ashland High School, graduated from Morehead State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Education and English, later obtaining a Master’s degree in Education. She was an English teacher for Greenup County School System for 33 years. Joan was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Siloam in South Shore, Kentucky.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Roscoe Edward Stephens; one daughter Rise Elaine Stephens; three brothers Dock Lemaster, Deward Lemaster, and Henry Lemaster; and three sisters Edna Rigsby, Phyllis Sloan, and Bea Hafey.
She is survived by three sons Creighton Stephens of South Shore, Kentucky, Jon Stephens of South Shore, Kentucky, and Thomas (Anne) Stephens of Greenup, Kentucky; two sisters Elaine Dunger of Spartanburg, South Carolina and Donna Kay Druell of Spartanburg, South Carolina; four grandchildren Jason (Chasity) Conley, Edward Davin Stephens, Isaac Stephens, and Aaron Stephens; two great grandchildren Paige Conley and Wesley Conley; special niece Mary Christina (Jason) Johnson and their children Genevieve and Ben of Flatwoods, Kentucky; and several nieces, nephews, friends, and family members who will all miss her dearly.
Funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at Reed Funeral Home in Greenup, Kentucky by Bro. Phillip Stephens and Bro. Marvin Boggs. Burial will be in East Golden Oaks Memorial Garden in Ashland, Kentucky. Visitation will be from 11:00 am until service time on Wednesday.
