Mrs. Claudetta Marlene Johnson Burgess, age 85, of Lloyd, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at her residence surrounded by her family who loved her dearly. Marlene was born January 28, 1940, in Morgantown, Pike County, Ohio, a daughter of the late Donald Fredrick Johnson and Alberta Adkins Johnson.
Marlene was a 1958 graduate of the former McKell High School where she was also football Homecoming Queen. She was an active and loyal member of Lloyd First Baptist Church for more than half a century where she had many friends. She was a homemaker all her life and she loved quilting and was a member of the Lloyd Homemakers. She was an avid University of Kentucky Wildcats fan. She enjoyed canning, cooking and especially spending time with her beloved family.
Marlene is survived by her beloved husband of 66 years, William Henry Burgess. In addition she is survived by three sons; Timothy Dean (Lisa) Burgess, James Luther Burgess, and Mark Aaron {Crystal) Burgess; a daughter; Tara Lea Burgess (Jamie) Suttles; sixteen grandchildren Andy (Jen) Burgess, Bobby (Devon) Burgess, Katie (Andrew) Ching, William (Maria) Burgess, Lorel Burgess, Olivia (Jack) Wolf, Caleb Burgess, Seth (Liz) Burgess, Jammie Lea (Donnie) Adams, James (Bethany) Suttles, Jonah (Lindsey) Suttles, Jessica Suttles, Shelby (Riley) Hamm, Ashley Burgess, Maggie Burgess, and Aaron Burgess. Marlene is also survived by 12 great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, July 19, 2025, at the Lloyd First Baptist Church by Pastor Rusty Foster. Burial will be in the Brick Union Church Cemetery, Lloyd, Kentucky. Visitation is from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Reed Funeral Home in Greenup, Kentucky, and one hour before the service on Saturday at Lloyd First Baptist Church.
