William Edward Cross, 68, of Wurtland, Kentucky, passed away, Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at UK Kings Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Kentucky. Will was born December 5, 1957, in Ashland, Kentucky, a son of the late Leonard A. and Ellie Horn Cross.

 

He retired from Flame Laminating in North Andover, Massachusetts, where he was treated like family and worked for 18 years. Will found joy in the simple things in life. He loved riding his 4-wheeler and enjoyed bowling with his brother, Doug. Doug was an especially important part of Will’s life, and the two shared a close bond filled with many memories, laughter, and time spent together. Their brotherhood was a special one, and Doug’s presence brought great meaning and companionship to Will’s life. Above all, Will’s greatest joy was his family, especially his daughters and grandchildren. He treasured every moment spent with them, and they loved him deeply in return, His love, kindness and devotion to his family will be cherished and remembered by all who knew him.

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters Martha Cross Morris and Liz Melnick.

 

He is survived by two daughters Angela (Willem) Nel of Milton, New Hampshire and Michelle (Chris) Florence of Kensington, New Hampshire; a brother Douglas Cross of Newburyport, Massachusetts; five sisters Ruth Akers of Ironton, Ohio, Georgie Sheers of Proctorville, Ohio, Mary (Wayne) Stevens of Flatwoods, Kentucky, Darlene (Les) Messer of Hedgesville, West Virginia, and Betty Dyer of Jeffersonville, Kentucky; six grandchildren Sarah Brown, Alexis Brown, Nicole Brown, Brianna Brown, Kristen (Shawn) Nally, and Alyssa Florence; five great-grandchildren; a very special friend Paul “Woody” King of North Andover, Massachusetts; a special niece Kay McIntire of Marion, Ohio; special friends and caregivers Bill Deirfield and Jeff Horn; a host of nieces and nephews and extended family and friends who will miss him dearly.

 

Will’s greatest legacy will be the love he gave so freely to his family. He will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. The memories he created with those closest to him, especially his brother Doug, will be treasured forever. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.

 

Funeral service will be conducted at 7:00pm on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at Reed Funeral Home in Greenup, Kentucky, by Minster Dennis Young.  Visitation will be from 5:00pm until service at 7:00pm Saturday, at the funeral home. Condolences may be made at www.rlrfuneralhome.com
