JW Pate Jr.




JW Pate Jr., 51, of Kenova, West Virginia, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, October 5, 2021, at Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, West Virginia due to COVID-19.


JW was born May 1, 1970, in Huntington, West Virginia a son of the JW Sr. and V. Rozella Russell Pate of Flatwoods, Kentucky.

He was preceded in death by an infant sister Faith Angelee Pate and a Cousin Beth Ann Blair who he was very close to.


JW was a 1988 graduate of Russell High School. He was a graduate of Shawnee State University where he received a bachelor’s degree in applied science. JW then went on to become a respiratory therapist. He was a former administrator for several nursing homes in the tri- state area. JW was a foster parent to many children and has adopted several of the children. He attended the Apostolic Life Cathedral Church in Guyandotte, West Virginia. JW loved to fish but he mainly loved his family and spending time with them.


In addition to his parents he is survived by his loving wife of 16 years Valerie Ward Pate; five sons Andrew Pate of Worthington, Kentucky, Alex (Victoria) Pate of Ironton, Ohio, Adam Pate of Worthington , Kentucky, Evan Pate and Asher Pate of Kenova, West Virginia; a step son Tyler Burnett; three daughters Paige Pate, Sydney Pate and Brielle Pate all of Kenova, West Virginia; two half-brothers Terry Collins of Cincinnati, Ohio and Kenny Fisher of English, Indiana; a nephew who was raised with him Gary Hamm of Charleston, West Virginia; a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and family who will miss him dearly.


Graveside services will be conducted at 12:00 pm Saturday at the Caroline Cemetery in Raceland, Kentucky by Pastor Jamie Blair, Bro. Mark Russell and Bro. David Morrison. Reed Funeral in Greenup is handling the services. Condolences may be made at www.rlrfuneralhome.com
