Barbara “Barb” Jean Burgess, peacefully passed away on August 25th, 2026, at her home in Lexington, Knetucky, after a life filled with immeasurable love and countless of lasting memories.
Barb was born October 20, 1944, in Ironton, Ohio, a daughter of the late Edward and Edith Taylor Holsinger.
To know Barb was to know her as someone who was passionate about her family, her love for gardening, and her devotion towards God. She was someone who brought light and laughter to everyone she spoke to as she had never met a stranger in her life. She was also someone whose faith and love for God was their rock and was always there for anyone who needed guidance and strength in tough times.
Barb was also an extremely hardworking person. Her grit and determination brought her success as a General Manager of a SuperAmerica for over 25 years while simultaneously having and raising four beautiful children with her husband, Donald.
Family was the center of Barb’s world. She was the true matriarch of the family who everyone respected and equally adored. Her children and grandchildren brought her the most happiness in life. You could regularly see her light shine the most over big family gatherings where you would find laughter, love, and delicious food in abundance.
1 CORINTHIANS
13:4-7 (NIV)
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”
Barb touched so many lives with her kind heart, sharp wit, and scrumptious berry cobbler that the memory of her will echo always.
In addition to her parents, Barb was preceded in death by her beautiful son, Scott “Scotty” Burgess; her dear brother and sisters, Charles Holsinger, Shirley Holsinger Butler, Thomas Holsinger, and John Holsinger.
