Hiram Balzer Wolfe


Hiram Balzer “H.B.” Wolfe, 96, of Greenup, Kentucky went to be with the Lord Monday February 5, 2018 at Oakmont Nursing and Rehab in Flatwoods, Kentucky surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Wolfe was born February 2, 1922 in Rexton, Kentucky a son of the late Follet and Flora Miller Wolfe. He is preceded in death by one brother Joseph D. “J.D.” Wolfe, one sister Mable Wolfe Madden, and a great grandson James Richard “Jake” Gibbs.

Mr. Wolfe was a Christian, husband to Minnie Smith Wolfe, his beloved wife of 68 years. Loving father to Kay Wolfe Martin and Jerry Wolfe. H.B. was loved by many and a well-known Greenup County resident. He was a mentor for many and a friend to everyone. He loved his church and his savior. He was a renown cattle trader and loved to grow tomatoes and share them with everyone. He loved farming and held bragging rights to some top prize tobacco crops. H.B. retired from the C&O Railroad in September 1983 and loved to brag about being retired longer than he worked. Most of all H.B. loved his family. He was heartbroken with the loss of his precious Minnie. He loved his daughter Kay and looked forward to talking about everything with her each night when she called him. He loved his son Jerry and was so proud to share his love of trading cattle and farming with him. He was proud to have Jerry carry on his traditions.

One daughter-in-law Janie Wolfe

One brother Tolbert (Elsie) Wolfe of Columbus, Ohio

One sister Eldean Madden of Lloyd, Kentucky

Nine grandchildren

Jason and Sondra Gibbs, Aaron Wolfe, Brandon and Raven Wolfe, Joshua and Allison Pistole, Jessica and Chris Baker.

Six great grandchildren

Sam Wolfe Gibbs, Max Gibbs, Wyatt Wolfe, Blaze Wolfe, Marlee Pistole, Kendall Baker.

H.B. will be missed but his memory shall live in our hearts forever.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 pm Saturday February 10, 2018 at Reed Funeral Home in Greenup, Kentucky by Pastor Bobby Bradley, Pastor Britt Bush, and great grandson Max Gibbs.

Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 pm on Friday and one hour before the service on Saturday. Condolences may be made at rlrfuneralhome.com.
