Avanelle Sloan


Avanelle Sloan, 95, of Route 2, Greenup, Kentucky went to be with the Lord Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Sloan was born October 16, 1921 in Greenup a daughter of the late Squire William and Sadie Pauley Cox. She was a retired grocery clerk from former Savage Gateway in Wurtland, Kentucky. She was of the Freewill Baptist Faith and attended Wurtland Freewill Baptist Church and Flatwoods Freewill Baptist Church. She loved to travel, quilt, crochet, and was a seamstress in her spare time.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Harold Sloan; step-mother Nellie Messer Cox; one son Hubert Scotty Cox; three brothers, William (Bill Ed) Edgar Cox, John Henry Cox, and Odom Seth Cox; four sisters, Monnie Harmon, Ida Belle Horsley, Maudie Cox, and May Cox; and one step-sister, Stella Sterling.

Funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 pm July 3, 2017 at Reed Funeral Home in Greenup, Kentucky by Bro. Bob Baldridge and Bro. Danny Brown. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods, Kentucky. Visitation will be from 10:30am until service time on Monday at the funeral home.
