Tommy Cecil Smith, 75, of Coolidge, Arizona, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 23, 2026, just days before his 76th birthday. Tom was born August 27, 1960, in London, Kentucky, a son of the late Cecil T. and Hazel Allen-Smith.
A proud veteran, Tom served with honor in the United Staes Marine Corps. He was passionate about his love for his country, and his patriotism was known to all.
Following his military service, Tom followed in his father’s footsteps and became an Arborist. He took immense pride in his craft, becoming the International Tree Climbing Champion in 1977. He spent decades caring for trees. When he was not working in the canopy, Tom could be found working on his beloved Mopars or spending quiet, peaceful hours fishing.
Tom’s greatest legacy lives on through his large loving family. He was the devoted father of seven children; Shari Smith, Jessica Englert, Joe T. Smith, Candice Smith, Cathleen (Katie) Smith, Thomas Smith, and Hazel (Kelly) Smith. He was also the proud grandfather of twelve grandchildren. Tom is also survived by his five siblings who will miss him dearly, Nancy Miller, Cathy Barber, Jean LaBre, Lisa Hunter, and Toby “Ted” Smith.
A service to celebrate Tom’s life will be held at Reed Funeral Home in Greenup, Kentucky, Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at 11:00am. There will be a one-hour visitation before the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you plant a tree in his memory or cast a line in his honor. Tom will be laid to rest at the Smith-Claxon Family Cemetery in Oldtown, Kentucky.
