It is with heavy hearts that we announce that April Marie Arnett Black, 56, of Morehead, Kentucky, formerly of Greenup, Kentucky, departed this world, Sunday, July 5, 2026, at University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky after a sudden illness.
April was born November 17, 1969, in Ashland, Kentucky, a cherished daughter of the late James and Rose M. Prater Arnett.
April grew up in a nurturing home. She was a 1987 graduate of Greenup County High School, and further her education at ATCT and Maysville Community and Technical College, where she earned a degree in Applied Science. Her pursuit of knowledge was driven by a desire to make a meaningful contribution to her community. She was currently employed by Diamond Forest Products and Resources in Morehead. Where she was known not only for her work ethic but also for the warmth and kindness she extended to her colleagues. April’s life was a testament to kindness, love, and wavering compassion.
April had a profound love for the outdoors. She found peace and joy in fishing, camping, and horseback riding, passions that she shared with her family and friends. April was a beautiful person inside and out, always meeting the world with a smile, no matter what the circumstances. She constantly put the needs of others before her own. To her family, she was a safe haven, a source of unwavering comfort and love.
She is survived by her loving husband of 25 years Weldon Black; a daughter Hailey Rose Black of Morehead, Kentucky; a stepson Trevor Black of Valentine, Nebraska; three brothers John (Debbie) Hay of Bera, Kentucky, David (Joy) Hay of Ocala, Florida, and Mikeal Hay of Greenup, Kentucky; a sister Jeanette (Jason) Smallwood of Greenup, Kentucky.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00pm, Monday, July 13, 2026, at Reed Funeral Home in Greenup by Minister Rick Hay. Burial will be in the Grizzle Cemetery in Argillite, Kentucky.
