William “Willie” Chambers

William Elmer “Willie” Chambers ,84, 0f, Greenup, Kentucky, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, February 19, 2026, at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Kentucky. Willie was born July 12, 1941, in Logan, West Virginia, a son of the late William Elmer and Mildred Baisden Chambers. Willie was a 1959 graduate of Logan High School and a graduate of Ashland Community Technical College with a degree in business.


He was a United States Navy veteran serving from 1959 to 1962, during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Willie served aboard the USS John Willis operating in the North Atlantic, also participated in training exercises with ships, aircraft and ground forces from Canada, France, Great Britian, Netherlands, Norway, and the United States. He was a member of the Tennessee Walking Horse Association. Willie enjoyed his horses and attending horse shows.Willie was a conductor for the CSX railroad. He made many trips to Handley, WV.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers Ernest Bevins Jr. and Allen Dale Chambers; two sisters Rosa Lee Schwintosky and Judy Flowers.


He is survived by his wife of 39 years Betty Rister Chambers; three sons Anthony (Sherry) Rister of Hilliard, Florda, William (Anita) Chambers II of Chesapeake, Ohio, and James David (Tammy) Chambers of South Point, Ohio; a daughter Jackie (Michael) Perry of Russell, Kentucky; a brother Larry Chambers of Sequin, Texas; three sisters Sharry (Jack ) White of Delbarton, West Virginia, Ernestine Southland of Logan West Virginia, and Bonnie Bevins of Lake , West Virginia; four grandchildren Owen Perry, Nichole(Drew) Adkins, Matthew (Christy) Rister, and Haley (Stephen) Fairchild of Huntington, West Virginia; four great-grandchildren Annie, Lindsay, Ezra, and Camden; a host of nieces and nephews.


The family would like to extend a special thanks to Willie’s caregivers who have become part of the family -Amy McNeil and Crystal Evans from Cornerstone Caregiving


Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00pm, Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at Reed Funeral Home in Greenup by Pastor Anthony Rister. Burial will be in the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North East. Visitation will be from 10:00am until service time on Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Community Hospice, 1480 Carter Ave., Ashland, Kentucky 41101.
