William Boyd Hurst, 75, of Lloyd, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at UK Kings Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Kentucky. William was born January 13, 1951, in Lloyd, Kentucky, a son of the late Cecil William Sr. and Ada Prater Hurst.
William was a United States Vietnam Army Veteran. He was retired from the Corps of Engineers where he worked as a Master Derrick Boat Operator. He enjoyed working with and riding horses, farming, baling hay, and fishing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son Dwayne Hurst; a great-grandson Dwayne M. Hurst and a brother Cecil Hurst Jr.
He is survived by his wife Elizabeth Buckley Hurst; two sons William “Buddy” Hurst and Steven (Jennifer) Hurst both of Lloyd, Kentucky; two brothers Kenny Hurst and Wayne Hurst both of Lloyd, Kentucky; four sisters Brenda Kay Truitt, Ina Chapman, Opal Hurst all of Lloyd, Kentucky and Rebecca (Jimmy) Baker of Greenup, Kentucky; six grandchildren Micheal Hurst, Corey Hurst, Wyatt Rhoden, Abbey McBrayer, Alycen Hurst, and Tyler (Litisha) Hurst; two great-grandchildren Lilith and Levi Hurst; a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends who will miss him dearly.
Funeral service will be conducted at 1:00pm, Thursday, April 2, 2026, at Reed Funeral Home in Greenup by Minister Kenny Martin. Burial will be in the Hurst Family Cemetery, Lloyd, Kentucky. Visitation will be from 11:00am until service time on Thursday at the funeral home.
Military rites will be performed by American Legion Post 93, Kenova, West Virginia.
