Thomas Powell

Thomas Dewayne Powell, 71, of Lloyd, Kentucky went home to be with the Lord, Friday, April 21, 2023, at King’s Daughters’ Medical Center in Ashland, Kentucky. Thomas was born November 9, 1951, in Ashland, Kentucky, a son of the late Thomas Edward and Mary Katherine Pruitt Powell.

Thomas was a 1969 graduate of the former McKell High School and was retired from AK Steel. He was a United States Army Veteran and National Guard Veteran and was of the Nazarene faith.

He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years Mary Jane Merritt Powell; a son William Thomas (Jessica Waggoner) Powell of Flatwoods, Kentucky; a daughter Toma Dawn (Carl) Powell Smith of LaGrange, Kentucky; two brothers David Kevin (Tammie) Powell of South Shore, Kentucky and William Earl Powell of Lloyd, Kentucky; a sister Donna Lynn (Steve) Black of South Shore, Kentucky; six grandchildren Kayla Smith, Natalie Smith, Zach Smith, Elyse Smith, Trenton Powell, and Taigan Powell; a host of nieces and nephews. Thomas was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed.

Funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 pm, Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at Reed Funeral Home in Greenup, Kentucky. Burial will be in the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North East. Military rites will be performed by Lt. Colonel Vance Huston Marine League Detachment #1345 and taps will be played by Mike Thomas.
