Thomas Herbert Barney Sr



Thomas Herbert Barney Sr., of Ashland, Kentucky, left this earth to be with the Lord, on Wednesday, December 21, 2022., at King's Daughters' Medical Center in Ashland, Kentucky. Tom was born on May 26, 1929, in Greenup Kentucky. He was the second born out of thirteen children to the Elder Henry Barney and his wife Bessie Ratliff Barney. He worked his whole life to provide for his family. He started working early in his adolescent years and stayed with it right up to the point where he physically couldn't any longer. He was also an avid farmer and deeply enjoyed fishing and hunting.


In addition to his parents, Tom was proceeded in death by his wife of 43 years Melba "Midge" Barney who has been waiting for him at the gates of heaven for 30 years and his daughter Shirley Barney. Also proceeding him in death are his siblings: Matthew Barney, Delores Barney, Bernice Tolliver, Herman Barney, Thurman Barney, Pauline Robertson, Irene Coffee, Henry "Junior" Barney, Eva Mae Arthur, and John Barney.


Those surviving Tom is his son Thomas (Vicki) Barney of Waxahachie TX and four daughters Connie (Larry) Turner of Granbury TX, Deborah (Daniel) Blevins of Greenup KY, Margie Mann of Ashland KY, and Brenda (Steve) Howe of Raceland KY. His grandchildren Darci (Thomas) Leach, Rhonda (Tim) Wells, Cindi (Edward) Evans, Daniel Blevins, Nathan (Jamie) Morris, DeVonna Blevins, Roger Kent (Tabitha) Morris, Rockland Mann, Jennifer Howe, Michelle Barney, and Mackenzie Howe; nine great-grandchildren Justin Evans, Aaron Wells, Charles Wells, Nicholas (Kaitlyn) Morris, Dylan Wells, Rayan Lamrissi, Holland Morris, Sophia Lamrissi, Cayson Morris, and Abigail Morris; two beautiful great-great grandchildren Cora and Atticus Morris; two brothers Paul (Melva) Barney of Lloyd KY and James Robert (Miriam) Barney of Lakeland FL. Tom was loved by a slew of nieces, nephews, and all of their children and grandchildren.


A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, January 7, 2023, at Reed Funeral Home in Greenup by Rev. Jack Edwards. His ashes will be laid to rest next to his wife at the Brick Union Cemetery in Lloyd Kentucky. Visitation will be one hour before the service on Saturday.
