Sarah Sue Wood, 84, of Wurtland, Kentucky, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, March 12, 2026, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Sarah was born March 12, 1942, in Liberal, Kansas and daughter of the late Leonard and Ferald Dykes Neer.
Sarah was a devoted foster parent for many children and was a caregiver to many elderly people in the area. She formerly worked at the sewing factory in Glasgow, Kentucky. She enjoyed being a girl scout leader, teaching children’s church, painting and working with ceramics.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter Tammy Lynn Wood; a granddaughter Sady Holbrook; two brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by three daughters Deborah Jean (James) Busby of Mountain Home, Arkansas, Pamela Joyce (Ricky) Davis of Etoile, Kentucky, and Charmaine Christine (Jeffrey) Holbrook of Wurtland, Kentucky; a son Michael Wayne Wood of Flatwoods, Kentucky; eleven grandchildren Tabitha Irwin, Evan Potter, Mallarie Andersen, Matthew Busby, Victoria Busby, Logan Holbrook, Shaelee Holbrook, Taylor Holbrook, Brandon Wood, Dylan Wood, and Damion Wood; several great grandchildren, special friends, Maria Bastians, and Mattie and Ava Minter.
A celebration of life will be conducted Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Gateway Church, 444 Blackburn Ave., Ashland, Kentucky 41102 from 5:00pm – 7:00pm. Reed Funeral Home in Greenup, Kentucky has been entrusted with the arrangements.
