Richard Lee Spears

Richard Lee Spears, 68, of Wurtland, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, July 5, 2023, at his home. Richard was born April 25, 1955, in Russell, Kentucky, a son of the late Kermit Sr. and Beatrice Pierce Spears. Richard was a 1973 graduate of Wurtland High School and was a former walking leadman for CSX. He loved to play music and enjoyed bluegrass music.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two daughters Erica Dawn Spears and Elizabeth Perkins Conley; a granddaughter Mattie Conley.

He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years Patty Sergent Spears; a son Jason Spears of Rock Hill, Ohio; two daughters Jessica Spears of Inverness, Florida and Martha Perkins Yates of Greenup, Kentucky; two brothers Kermit Spears and David Spears both of Wurtland, Kentucky; a sister Litha Burton of Argillite, Kentucky; Six grandchildren Noah Spears, Jacob Spears, Krysten Spearman, Dewayne (Dan) Yates-Purkeypyle, Abby (Amber) Belcher-Yates and Austin (Sierra) Johnson; three great-grandchildren Macie Leadingham, Ryker Johnson and Selena Johnson; four nieces Mandy, Melanie, Valarie, and Kimberly; one nephew Dale Burton; and a special friend Jr. Yates of Wurtland, Kentucky.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm, Monday, July 10, 2023, at Reed Funeral Home in Greenup, Kentucky. Burial will be in the Spears Family Cemetery in Argillite, Kentucky.
