Mary Hancock Griffith

Mary Hancock Griffith, 78, of Greenup, Kentucky, went home to be with the Lord, Saturday, October 3, 2026, at UK Kings Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Kentucky.

Mary was born June 29, 1948, in Ashland, Kentucky, a daughter of the late George and Margaret McDowell Hancock.

Mary was a 1966 graduate of the former Wurtland High School and later graduated from Ashland Vocational School as a License Practical Nurse. She was a member of the Plum Grove Baptist Church and enjoyed going to Bible study once a week.  She enjoyed spending time and taking care of her family, who she loved dearly.  Mary loved to read and drink her coffee.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Phillip Griffith Sr.; two sons Infant Mark Allen Griffith and Phillip Griffith Jr.; a brother Jeffery Hancock.

She is survived by a grandson Justin (Sara McClanahan) Griffith of Greenup, Kentucky; great grandson Joseph Griffith Wurtland, Kentucky; two brothers Michael Hancock of Greenup, Kentucky and Terry (Becky) Hancock of Wurtland, Kentucky; Brother and sister-in-law Mike and Cindy Griffith of Greenup, Kentucky; a daughter in law Connie Burton Smith; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be at 11:00am, Saturday, October 10, 2026, at Reed Funeral Home in Greenup by Pastor Chris Bellew.  Burial will be in the Plum Grove – Collins Cemetery in Greenup, Kentucky.

Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00pm, Friday, and one hour before the service on Saturday at the funeral home.

At the family request in lieu of flowers donation may be made towards funeral expenses.
