James Cecil Adkins




James Cecil Adkins, 81, of South Shore, Kentucky went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, October 13, 2022, at his home surrounded by his family who loved him dearly. Cecil was born August 19, 1941, in a log cabin on Schultz Creek, Kentucky, a son of the late James Everett and Viola Hardin Adkins. He was a 1960 graduate of the former McKell High School and was a retired grinder operator from the Brickyard in South Shore. Cecil loved to hunt and was skilled in woodworking. He was a wonderful husband, father and Pap who loved his family dearly. He was his grandchildren’s biggest fan. He followed them to all their sporting events and whatever they were involved in. He will be greatly missed.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law Chris Slater; three brothers Norman Adkins, Philip Adkins, and Chester Adkins; and two sisters Nancy Elizabeth Hale and Mary Payton.


He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years Sharon Kay Gambill Adkins; two sons Craig (Kelly) Adkins and Shane (Heather) Adkins both of South Shore, Kentucky; two daughters Rhonda Adkins Slater of South Shore, Kentucky and Lisa Adkins Hardin of Lloyd, Kentucky; eight grandchildren Bryce Adkins, Katie Adkins, Aleeya Adkins, Eli Adkins, Ryan Slater, Molly (Adam) Ratliff, Ethan (Shelby) Hardin and Sara (Crockett) Reed; four great-grandchildren Wyatt Slater, Tayte Ratliff, Braelyn Slater, and Delaney Ratliff.


Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 pm Sunday October 16, 2022, at Reed Funeral Home in Greenup by Bro. Gary Howell and Bro. Tim Underwood. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery in South Shore, Kentucky. Visitation will be from 12:00 until services time on Sunday at the funeral home.
