James Arthur “Jim” Belt, 62, of Argillite, Kentucky, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Jim was born on February 22, 1963, in Greenup, KY, a son of the late James Thomas and Cloah (Hall) Belt. He was a 1981 graduate of Greenup County High School. He was a Christian and a member of the Plum Grove Baptist Church. Jim retired from the County of Greenup after 22 years of service as Solid Waste Coordinator and Code Enforcement Officer. He was a founding member and former chief of the Little Sandy Volunteer Fire District. He was also a founding member of the Greenup County Firefighters Association and the Greenup Old Tractors, Engines, and Machinery (GOTEM). He was a Kentucky Colonel and a long-time representative on the site-based council at Argillite Elementary School.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law James and Erma Brown Blevins.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 33 years Gretta Lydell Blevins Belt: two sons Bradley Belt and Brandon Belt both of Argillite, Kentucky; two sisters Connie Belt of Ashland, Kentucky and Karen Belt of Greenup, Kentucky; two sisters-in-law Angie (Rick) James and Kathy (JR) Christian both of Argillite, Kentucky; a niece, four nephews, and a host of wonderful friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00am, Monday, October 6, 2025, at Reed Funeral Home in Greenup, Kentucky by Pastor Mark Hutchinson and Winston Hilton. Burial will be in Plum Grove-Collins Cemetery in Greenup, Kentucky. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00pm on Sunday at the funeral home. Condolences may be made at www.rlrfuneralhome.com
