James Arthur Archey

James Arthur Archey, 90, of Greenup, Kentucky went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, September 7, 2026, at his home surrounded by his family who he loved dearly.
Jim was born July 20, 1936, in Greenup, Kentucky, a son of the late Ollie Pete Archey and Noma Stephenson Archey Hailey.
He was a 1954 graduate of the former Greenup High School and was a United States Marine Corps Veteran. Jim retired from the United States Post Office as a letter carrier where he was the postman in Wurtland and Greenup for 38 years.
He was a member of the Greenup Lions Club for 50 plus years and greatly enjoyed attending different events and meetings while serving as District Governor for several years. Jim later took on the job as “Voice of the Musketeers” at Greenup County High School Basketball games for over 40 years, and was also the announcer at the Kentucky Christian University Basketball games for the past 4 seasons. He also enjoyed being the MC for years for the Greenup County Fair Beauty Pageant and organizer of the Old Fashion Days Car Show. Jim was a substitute teacher for years In the Greenup County School System and was involved in many initiatives throughout his community. Jim was a member of Greenup First Baptist Church and a former member at Wurtland Missionary Baptist Church and Highland Heights Baptist Church. He had served as a song leader, Sunday school director, and a deacon in the various churches.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife Marilyn Adams Archey; five brothers Gene Thurman Archey, Harold “Bo” Archey, Kenneth Archey, Fred Archey, and Larry Archey; two sisters Herma Lambert Fraley and baby Olive Archey.
Survived by a son Paul Jeffery “P.J.” (Deena Johnson) Archey of Lexington, Kentucky, a daughter Anita Archey Prince of Greenup, Kentucky; a half sister Anna Punkin (Lee) Miller of Texas; four grandchildren Jake (Christina) Archey of Atlanta, Georgia, Megan (Jason) Archey Shim of Darien, Connecticut, Peter (Raegan) Archey of Austin, Texas, and Nick of Greenup, Kentucky; a great-grandchild Clara Shim; a special friend Chris Griffith of Louisa, Kentucky; a host of nieces, nephews, and family who will miss him dearly.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00am, Tuesday, September 13, 2026, at Greenup First Baptist Church by Pastor Dr. Tom Melvin, Ministers Rob Hale, Jeff Ferguson and Lions Club member David Applegate. Burial will be in the Ashland Cemetery. Military rites will be performed by American Legion Post 93 Kenova West Virginia.
Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00pm Monday at Reed Funeral Home in Greenup, Kentucky.
