Howard Duane Kammerer, 86, of Portsmouth, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at the Southern Ohio Hospice Center in Portsmouth, Ohio, surrounded by his loving family. Howard was born July 14, 1939, in Portsmouth, Ohio, a son of the late Myrtle Fornier. He proudly served his country as a United States Army Veteran and later dedicated many years of service as a State Trooper for the State of Ohio. Howard was known for his strength, loyalty, and deep commitment to his family and community.
He is survived by his companion of 20 years, Mary Boldman of Portsmouth, Ohio; his daughter Kelly Kammerer; his son Micheal Liles; and five stepchildren: Annette, Jeff Montgomery, Jess Jordan, Julie Jordan, Angie Jordan, and Karen Jordan. Howard’s legacy continues through his grandchildren: Nathan Craft, Derick Tudor, Kyle Clark, Shelli Clark, Jole Liles, Aaron Newcomb, and Xerik Curry; as well as his great-grandchildren: Nathan Craft Jr., Makenna Clark, Calli Clark, and Ryker Clark. Howard was preceded in death by his mother Myrtle Fortnier, two daughters, Samantha Kammerer and Kathy Kammerer; his son, Duane Liles; his grandson Gavin Kammerer; and several brothers and sisters. Howard will be remembered for his service to his country and state, his unwavering love for his family, and the strength and quiet dignity he carried throughout his life. His memory will live on in all who knew and loved him.
