Gary Lee McCarty

Gary Lee McCarty, 72, of Greenup, Kentucky left us way too soon due to a battle with cancer Sunday, July 9, 2023, in South Shore, Ky surrounded by family and friends.

Gary was born in Wurtland, Kentucky, September 24, 1950, a son of the late Alfred S and Georgia Boggs McCarty. Gary was a person that everyone could get along with. Always having a positive attitude. His cup was always half full never half empty. He loved spending time with friends and family, watching boxing matches, UFC Fights and the Bengals play football.

Throughout his life he took on many rolls. He was a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and recently became a great grandfather. He was an uncle and a friend to many people.

He is survived by his wife of 28 years Melissa Nickels of Greenup, Kentucky; two daughters Kari Waddell (Dwight) Waddell of Logan, Ohio and Linda Nickels of Ashland, Kentucky: a son Jason McCarty (Lacy) McCarty of Murray City, Ohio; a brother Aaron McCarty (Kathleen) McCarty of Lancaster, Ohio; two nieces Tina Rockwell, and Tonya Emory; two nephews Russell McCarty and Robert McCarty; and seven grandchildren Kearstynn Waddell, Kyle Waddell, Charlee McCarty, Levi Patton, Riley Patton, Uriah Ward, Jesse Messer and a great-grandson Mason Bungard.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a son Mr. Jesse Ritter.

A Memorial service will be held at the Old Fields Cemetery in Argillite, Kentucky, conducted by Jason McCarty followed by a celebration of life at Hidden Hollow, Greenup.
