Evelyn Messer
Evelyn Messer, 84 (less than one month shy of her 85th birthday), of Greenup, Kentucky passed away Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at Kings Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Kentucky surrounded by her loving family. Evelyn was born October 17, 1939, in Greenup, Kentucky a daughter of the late Andrew and Susan Crawford Johnson.
In high school Evelyn was a member of the beta club and earned a trip to New York with the club. She proudly graduated from Wurtland High School in 1958 with honors. She was a devoted member of the Lower Grassy Church of Christ, she played an important role in her family's lives, helping to raise her nieces and nephews with love and care. Her deep appreciation for life and her grateful spirit were evident to all who knew her. Evelyn was affectionately known as the "cake lady”, she would make delicious birthday cakes that brought joy to every celebration. Her love for her family and her generous heart made a lasting impact on everyone around her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Aden Messer; three brothers Noah Johnson, Robert Johnson, and Jimmy Johnson; and two sisters Magdalene Worthington and Bird Dean Johnson.
She is survived by four sisters Elizabeth Scalice of Troy, Ohio, Linda Qualls of Greenup, Kentucky, Sadie (Ed) Boyce of Troy, Ohio, and Tiresa (Marty) Hobart of Troy, Ohio; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and family and friends who will miss her dearly.
Funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 am on Monday, September 30, 2024, at Reed Funeral Home in Greenup, Kentucky by Minister Scott Riggs. Burial will be in Horsley Cemetery in Carter City, Kentucky. Visitation will be from 6:00 – 8:00 pm on Sunday, September 29, 2024, at the funeral home and one hour before the service on Monday.
