Benjamin “Benji” Joe Cox, 53, of Ashland, Kentucky passed away peacefully on March 27, 2026, at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Kentucky. Benji was born on June 21, 1972, a son of Genevieve Rice and the late Larry R. Cox. He was a man known for his warm spirit and kind heart—someone who truly never met a stranger. Those who knew him will always remember his easygoing nature and his favorite saying, “Fair to middling.”
In addition to his father he was preceded in death by his step father Steve Swimm and his
sister Lisa Cox.
In addition to his loving mother he is survived by his life partner Nancy Hicks; three children Nicholas Sheffield, Kourtney Harris, and Savannah Stambaugh; stepson
Steven Stambaugh; siblings, Larry R. Cox II, Kristi L. Swimm, Misty Cox, Mitchell Cox; and eight grandchildren. Special people in Benjamin’s life included Terri Prince, Brook Prince, Rikki Picklesimer and Joe Jarrell who held a meaningful place in his heart.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at the Assembly of God Church, 525 Blackburn
Avenue, Ashland, Kentucky 41101, on Tuesday, April 7th from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, charitable donations can be made to the Community Hospice Care Center
