Arlene Smith

Arlene Smith, 82, of Argillite, Kentucky, went home to be with the Lord, Saturday, January 21, 2023, at King’s Daughters’ Medical Center in Ashland, Kentucky surrounded by her loving family. Arlene was born July 7, 1940, in Greenup, Kentucky a daughter of the late James and Hazel Adams Prater.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Leonard Smith; two sons Kelly “Bud” Smith and John Smith; four brothers Paul Prater, Bob Prater, Buck Prater and Jimmy Prater; six sisters Helen Prater, Jean Ewing, Stella Worthington, Rose Arnett, Lois McCarty and Edna Hay.

Arlene enjoyed playing bingo and loved music. Her biggest love was for her family. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was of the Baptist faith.

She is survived by a son James (Tammy) Smith of Argillite, Kentucky; five daughters Rose (Paul) Blevins, Diana (George) Biggs both of Argillite, Kentucky, Sheila (Mark) Nichols of Grayson, Kentucky, Phyllis Stepp Argillite, Kentucky and Amanda (Andrew) Elliott of Rush, Kentucky; twenty two grandchildren Areline, Timothy, Lois, Matthew, Gage, Jerry, Cameron, Jessica, Mark, Vicky, Danny, Kelly, Jamie, Woodrow, Tonya, Mary, April, Jonathan, David, Patrick “P.J”, Gavin, and Taylor; eighteen great-grandchildren; Eleven great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00pm, Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at Reed Funeral Home in Greenup, Kentucky by Pastor Ronnie Blevins. Burial will be on the Oldfields Cemetery in Argillite, Kentucky.

Visitation will be from 6:00 – 8:00 pm Tuesday and one hour before the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
