Meredith Paul Leadingham
Meredith Paul Leadingham, 84, of Frederick, MD, died on Thursday, October 27, 2016 at Glade Valley Center in Walkersville, MD. Born on July 8, 1932, in Carter County, Kentucky, Paul was one of ten children of Rev. Meredith Franklin Leadingham and Belva Adkins Leadingham. He graduated from Greenup High School in 1951 and enlisted in the United States Air Force in October of that same year. He served in the Air Force Communication Field for four years before being discharged in 1954. Paul took a job with the Department of the Army as a communications relay operator from 1956-1992. He was presented the Department of the Army Decoration for Meritorious Civilian Service from 1986-1991. He served as coach for Frederick Little League Football for six years and general manager of the Frederick Falcons Semi-Pro Football Team for twelve years. He became a member of Columbia Lodge #58 in 1968 and Master of the Masonic Lodge in 1973. He served as a member of the Scottish Rite and a 32nd Degree Mason. Paul served as the family historian and has been working on genealogy for the past 48 years. He is a member of the Kentucky Historical Society and was commissioned a Kentucky Colonel in 1978. He married his sweetheart, Betty Doris Fannin Leadingham on October 14, 1954. They were married until her death in May 1994. Paul is survived by his children, Debbie Lynn Leadingham Sundstrom and husband Harry “Bud” Sundstrom of Cape May, NJ; Paula Susan Leadingham Agnew of Columbus, OH; Jane Leadingham Filler and husband Neil Filler of Walkersville, MD; and Mark Paul Leadingham and wife Jeanette Norwood Leadingham of Sharpsburg, MD. Paul is also survived by six granddaughters, six grandsons, and two great-grandsons; three sisters, and one brother. Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Monday, October 31 at Plum Grove Baptist Church, Greenup, Kentucky. Burial will be at the Plum Grove Community Cemetery in Greenup.
Visitation is from 11am-1pm at the church prior to the funeral. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of Mr. Leadingham to the Plum Grove Community Cemetery Maintenance Fund, c/o Plum Grove Baptist Church, 812 Plum Grove Road, Greenup, KY, 41144 or to the charity of one’s choice.
