Spc. Madison Royster Jr.
Spc Madison “Matt” Spencer Royster Jr., 30, of Fort Wayne, IN formerly of Greenup, Kentucky passed away Thursday, May 7, 2015 at his residence.
Matt was born September 16, 1984 in Portsmouth, Ohio a son of Tammy Lea Stephens of Greenup, Kentucky and Madison Spencer (Norma) Royster Sr. of Colegrove, Ohio
He was a 2002 graduate of Greenup County High School and was a Operation Freedom United States Army Veteran. Matt was a cavalry scout with 1st Squadron, 40th Cavalry Air Bourne Regiment. He was a Purple Heart recipient due to his injuries received as a pointman on a dismounted patrol when he was hit by an improvised explosive device on November 22, 2006
He suffered wounds to both legs and his left arm. After being injured, Royster attempted to crawl to his weapon to engage the enemy. He was also a recipient of a Combat Action Badge.
He was preceded in death by his
Grandparents Roland and Shirley Sweeney Royster Jr.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm Sunday, May 10, 2015 at Reed Funeral Home in Greenup by Bro. Ed Johnson. Burial will be in the Grizzel Cemetery, Greenup County, KY. Military rites will be preformed by Marine Corps League Greenbo Detachment #1345.
Visitation will be Sunday from noon until service time at the funeral home.
