Evelene Adkins

Evelene Adkins, 92, of Lloyd, KY, went to be with the Lord on March 12, 2018, at her home peacefully surrounded by her loving family. Evelene was born October 15, 1925, in Greenup, KY, a daughter of the late Charlie and Josephine Ratliff Barney. She was a member of Freedom Worship Church of God in Greenup. Evelene was a homemaker who devoted her life to caring for her family. Her mother died when Evelene was only 12 years old and she helped raise her younger brothers and sisters. Her husband pastored for over 40 years and he could not have done it without her working tirelessly by his side. She had a green thumb and loved growing flowers and watching birds. Evelene was a wonderful southern cook. Her carrot cake and banana pudding were the best in Kentucky. She was a quilter and embroiderer, a master artist with a needle in her hand. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Homer Estill Adkins; five brothers, Walter Barney, Charles Barney, Cleo Barney, Henry Barney and Taylor Barney; two sisters, Mazilla Rosser and Eunice Caldwell; infant brother, Thomas Barney; one granddaughter, Amanda Mullins; great-grandson Cole Thomas. She is survived by two daughters, Wanda (Lemuel) Mullins of Lloyd, KY, and Linda (Wayne) Stephenson of Greenup, KY; one brother, Harlan Barney of Ashland, KY; four grandchildren, Kenneth (Christy) Reed, Robin (Tom) Wilson, Melinda (Scott) Lanham and Buzz (Sheena) Riley; 10 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 16, 2018, at Reed Funeral Home in Greenup, KY, by Pastor Hyden Curnutt. Burial will be in the Brick Union Cemetery in Lloyd. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home and one hour before the service on Friday at the funeral home. Condolences may be made at Rlrfuneralhome.com.
