Nora C. McWhorter


Nora C. McWhorter, 84, formerly of Greenup, Kentucky went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at her residence in Wesley Villiage. Nora enjoyed her loving family and was an active member at Greenup Christian Church and in the community until her recent move to Wilmore, KY to be closer to family. She and George (Buddo), her devoted husband who preceded her in death, also enjoyed boating, being with good friends and neighbors and being involved with youth through church, community and school activities. Nora was born November 4, 1932 in Raceland, KY a daughter of the late Charles Lee and Blanche Sammons Cales. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, George (Buddo) McWhorter. She is survived by a sister Genie C.McKenzie, a son, David (Linda) McWhorter of Lexington, daughter, Dana (Ken) Katterjohn, of Franklin, TN, grandchildren Ben (Hillary) McWhorter, AJ McWhorter, of Lexington, and Brittany (Stanley) Ross of Clarksville, TN and great-grandson, Charlie McWhorter and several cousins. Nora was extremely talented and exceled at several careers throughout her life, she was owner of “The Gift Box”, former editor of “The Greenup News, typist for Jesse Stuart, court administrator for former Circuit Judge Oscar Sammons, an elementary school teacher, and bookkeeper at Kinner Lumber. One of her and Buddo’s greatest accomplishments and a source of pride was to develop Greenup Elementary School into Stoneside Apartments. Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 pm Tuesday, July 25 at Greenup Christian Church in Greenup by David Stultz. Visitation will be from 11:00 until funeral time on Tuesday. Burial will be in Siloam Cemetery in South Shore, KY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Greenup Christian Church, or JDRF, Diabetes Association.
